Gerald Sorin

Gerald Sorin
is the former Chairman of the History Department (1986-1996) at SUNY, New Paltz
and continues there, since 1983, as Distinguished University Professor Emeritus,
Director of the Louis and Mildred Resnick Institute for the Study of Modern
Jewish Life, and Director of the Jewish Studies Program. He has delivered more
than 90 talks locally, nationally, and internationally, and has published 150
articles, essays, and reviews in magazines and newspapers as well as in the
professional journals. His most recent book Irving Howe: A Life of Passionate
Dissent (NYU, 2002), won the National Jewish Book Award in History for 2002.
